The purple wooden Kraken figure next to its three Variant cards on a wooden table

Mini-expansion for Lying Pirates

Release the Kraken.

Something ancient stirs beneath the waves. This mini expansion adds a wooden Kraken to your fleet, and three game modes that decide how the beast behaves at your table.

One voyage it hunts every captain on the map. The next it fights at your side. And if greed makes you roll one six too many, it rises for you alone.

  • 3 game modesPlay one, or all three
  • 2-6 playersSame as the base game
  • Pairs with Cities of GreedWorks with every edition

What's in the box

One beast. Fifteen cards.

  • The wooden Kraken figure, purple with gold print

    Wooden Kraken figure

The beast itself. Solid wood with gold print, ready to terrorize the board.

  • The three Kraken Variant cards laid out side by side

    Three game modes

Kraken Mode, Kraken's Revenge and Kraken's Wrath, on ready-to-play Variant cards.

  • The stack of Kraken cards with the purple card back

    15 Variant cards, 5 languages

Every box has all three modes in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

How it plays

Three ways the beast strikes

Use them one at a time, or combine all three for full Kraken chaos.

  1. Kraken Mode

    The Hunt

The beast patrols the map against your route. Land on its tile and the captains battle to decide who faces it. Lose the roll and your cargo sinks to the deep.

  2. Kraken's Revenge

    The Ally

Down to your last crew die? The Kraken takes your side for one round. Place it anywhere on the board and drag every nearby rival into battle. Someone must pay.

  3. Kraken's Wrath

    The Price

Three sixes in the Betting phase wake the beast, and it turns on you. Roll the battle die and face the consequences. You woke it. Now pay the price.

Why add it

What changes at your table

  1. 1
    The sea fights back.

A non-player threat that disrupts the leaders and keeps the race tight.

  2. 2
    Three moods, one box.

Hunt, ally or punishment. Pick the mode that fits your crew tonight, or stack all three.

  3. 3
    Fits every edition.

Base Game, Big Box, with or without Cities of Greed. No alliances. No mercy. Just tentacles.
